Client: Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia: ERIA

In anticipation of the mid-term review (MTR) of AEC 2025, ERIA had chosen Svara Institute (formerly Presisi Indonesia) to conduct a study on the impact of ASEAN economic integration, as a means of an independent input to the process of MTR. The study was aspired to complement the evaluation process that will be conducted by the ASEAN Secretariat. Also, by having such a study, it would be a tangible proof of the solid commitment of the ASEAN Member States (AMS) in their commitment in realizing ASEAN as an economic bloc to be reckoned with. We computed the extent of actual services liberalization in several sectors—such as, medical and health, tourism, telecommunication, banking, and insurance—as a means to extend the previous study on actual liberalization in ASEAN. The computation of actual liberalization rates covers all the AMS. This study is an extension of Dee's 2015.
